What is a QR Code?
QR code (abbreviated from Quick Response Code) is the trademark for a type of matrix barcode (or two-dimensional barcode) first designed in 1994 for the automotive industry in Japan.
QR Codes may be used to display text to the user, to open a URL, save a contact to the address book or to compose text messages.

- To read QR Codes with your smartphone, you need an appropriate software installed on your phone. For Android-based devices, you can use Barcode Scanner by ZXing.
- On iOS-Devices like iPhones there are also QR Code readers available on the AppStore, for Example i-nigma. On Firefox OS try QR Code Scanner.
- On Symbian devices, you can use Mobiletag barcodes reader for example.
Static QR Codes
- Text
Encode a message or any form of text in a QR-Code.
- SMS
The QR code contains a SMS message. The user can send it to a target telephone number. By scanning the code, the SMS can be send to the target number without cumbersome typing. This is especially useful for SMS keyword ads and mobile payment solutions (“Send KEYWORD to 12345”).
- URL
This QR content type is probably the most used one. The QR code just contains the address of a website. By scanning the code, the website can be access by the user without the hassle of manually entering the address (URL).

By definition, mailto uses whatever mail client is configured in the user"s browser, and sends from their own email address
- vCard
vCard, also known as VCF (Virtual Contact File), is a file format standard for electronic business cards. All vCards begin with BEGIN:VCARD and end with END:VCARD.
